Report: Belarus ready to work with Uralkali if interests respected

MINSK, Mar 9 (PRIME) -- Minsk is ready to cooperate with Russian potash fertilizer producer Uralkali if the company respects interests of Belarus to the degree of “200%”, Belarusian news agency BelTA reported on Thursday citing President Alexander Lukashenko.

While hearing a report on operation of Belarusian Potash Company, or Belaruskali, Lukashenko said that representatives of Russia have repeatedly asked him to restore cooperation between Uralkali and Belaruskali in production and sales of fertilizers. “They have seen today that it is difficult to work alone. And they saw that weýìó turned out to be durable. And new management came, and they offer us to return to cooperation,” he said.

“But interests of Belarus should be protected by 200%, not just by 100%. We are fed up with that cooperation, so if we work together, it will be done on the territory of Belarus and with honest and principal agreements on all issues of operation. We will not make any concessions, but we are ready to compromise. Still, these compromises should be mutually beneficial,” he said.

Uralkali and Belaruskali suspended cooperation via a joint venture in 2013.
